Overview

BPH Corporate (previously BioPharmica Limited) was formed in 2004 and is a listed company on the Australian Securities Exchange under code BPH. The company is commercialising a portfolio of Australian biomedical technologies emerging from research by leading Universities, Medical Institutes and Hospitals across Australia. Targeting large global markets BPH provides product development and commercial direction, whilst the institutional partner provides the majority of the infrastructure and research expertise.

Technologies on the way to commercialisation include: Diagnostic Array Systems, BacTrak a faster and more effective method of detecting infectious disease; Cortical Dynamics Brain Anaesthesia Response (BAR) Monitor - a device that measures a patient’s brain electrical activity (EEG) to indicate the response to drugs administered during surgery; HLS5 Tumour Suppress Gene a molecular marker for early and accurate cancer detection; and microtubule drugs that target the tumour vasculature.

Molecular Discovery Systems (MDSystems) is a 19.5% owned subsidiary of BPH that was launched in 2006 for drug discovery and the validation of biomarkers for disease, therapy and diagnostics. The company utilizes the InCell Analyser 1000 for high throughout imaging and analysis, providing services for researchers worldwide.

BPH has an interest in a SERS Nanoprobe an optical fibre to be used in biosensors for diagnostic testing and drug development.

BPH Corporate also has investment with Advent Energy Limited which is an unlisted oil and gas exploration company. Advent holds a strong portfolio of exploration and near-term production assets throughout Australia. Advent’s cornerstone project lies off the coast of NSW in Petroleum Exploration Permit 11 (PEP11), and has been estimated to comprise up to 16.3 Tcf (P10 or ‘high’ level) prospective recoverable gas resources.

  1. An exceptional opportunity exists for a drug development company to co-develop a drug candidate validation program in the field of anti-Microtubule cancer therapeutics.
  2. An exciting opportunity exists for a diagnostic company to license the BacTrak technology in the field of respiratory infection diagnosis.  The BacTrak System is a diagnosis test for the detection of multiple bacteria in single sputum sample (e.g. diagnosis of pneumonia).  The System is a PCR/microarray based system which is a faster system compared to conventional microbiological systems.

  3. The use of brain anesthesia response (BAR) index monitoring capability in animals and man.

  4. Contract services are also available utilising the InCell Analyser 1000 which combines high resolution imaging and high content analysis to provide a technology that rapidly detects and quantifies components of the cell much faster than conventional methods.  Image capture and analyse is conducted by trained personnel to provide results.
